TKGS Sparkling Moments
Introduced in 2019, it has become a tradition for students and staff to recollect significant moments that touched them in the year. We call it TKGS Sparkling Moments. It gives students the opportunity to express what they appreciate of the school, teachers and classmates. TKGS Sparkling Moments could be amazing accomplishments by individuals, teams and classes. They are also cherished memories of school events like Leaders Investiture, and the moment of pride winning a class competition. Or it could be times when teachers and students are inspired by the team work and class spirit shown during cohort camps, Sports Carnival, the fortnightly TK GLOW! and TK Spirit Week. More often than not, the Sparkling Moments we love are the simple, ordinary things we do in our daily interactions that touch a heart, enlighten the mind and bring laughter to all. What we call - Little things with huge significance. TKGS Sparkling Moments are about people and relationships. May you enjoy reading the following Sparkling Moments!!
President’s Scholarship 2022 – G. Solai Valli
We would like to congratulate G. Solai Valli, from the Class of 2019, for receiving the President's Scholarship 2022.
During her time in TKGS, Solai was an active member of the Softball CCA and Vice-Captain of Elizabeth House.
Solai is also the recipient of Singapore Armed Forces Scholarship and will be the first President's Scholar to study international relations and organisations at Leiden University in the Netherlands.
We would like to once again congratulate Solai and her family for her outstanding achievements and we wish her all the best in her future studies.
MOE Teaching Scholarship - Clarise Chong Lynn Ching
We would like to extend our heartiest congratulations to Clarise Chong Lynn Ching, our alumna from the Class of 2019, a proud recipient of the MOE Teaching Scholarship. This achievement is awarded to students with strong passion for education and teaching.
During her time as a student, she was determined and hardworking. Holding herself accountable to her high expectations, she did her best in all aspects of her schooling experience and never falter in the face of challenges. She is generous and reaches out to peers who needed support. She never turns down anyone who is in need of help and aims to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
We at TKGS are exultant of her latest achievement and would like to wish her all the best in her future endeavours.
A Sparkling Moment in the Creative Exploration of Language
The Creative Arts Programme is an annual programme that aims to nurture talented young writers in Singapore. It is jointly organised by the Gifted Education Branch, MOE and Yale-NUS College, and the programme offers enrichment in the literary arts, where participants have the opportunity to learn from academics, writers and artists in related fields. Writing workshops are also offered in English and Mother Tongue (CL, ML, TL) to help students discover and hone their individual voice and craft. Secondary 2 and 3 students with a passion for creative exploration of language are invited to participate in this programme each year. This year, after many rounds of selection, TKGS is proud to share that one of our students has been chosen for this prestigious learning opportunity – Toh Jia Ying, Zelda from 3E2. She shares some thoughts on this valuable learning experience:
“The CAP seminar was intensive and, at times, tiring but it was overall a very enriching experience. During the seminar, many informative writing workshops and plenary lectures were organised. The writer’s circle, for instance, in which everyone shared a poem gave me a chance to hear the insight and perspectives of my fellow aspiring poets. As for my thoughts about being selected for this mentorship programme after all the training, I am thrilled to be able to learn from my mentor, Mr Desmond Kon, and refine my poem writing skills even further. I also feel very grateful to my EL teachers, Ms Song and Ms Cheong, for sharing this great opportunity and supporting me through this journey with their feedback and suggestions on my poetry portfolio. Overall, this CAP experience is something that I would most definitely recommend to anyone interested in creative writing!”

The 69th Speech & Prize-Giving Ceremony and School Official Opening Ceremony 2022 was held from 11 to 16 April 2022. This ceremony themed New Hopes, Unbounded marks the beginning of a new chapter in TKGS’ history. As we move out of the COVID-19 pandemic into the endemic stage, we hope to be COVID-resilient. New Hopes, Unbounded encourages the spirit of positivity, optimism, resilience, abundant courage, and creative thinking amongst the TKGS family. Anchored in service and leadership, TKGS is now at the forefront of designing and enhancing programmes to meet the 21st century needs of the students, leveraging technology and the improved physical facilities of the school to allow learning to take place in the “big classroom”, beyond the four walls of the classroom. This big classroom concept also extends to the Mountbatten community where TKGians can keep an observant eye to see the needs of others, hold an attentive heart to care about community issues and have the courage to act on social issues. This will enable them to be leaders of character with the impassioned spirit to serve common good and live out the ideals encapsulated in the school song which is to “serve in honour and work for selfless fame, for credit of our country and glory of her name.” This story of the extraordinary journey of TKGS past and present was celebrated through the official school opening and launch of the TKGS Heritage Gallery on 16 April 2022.

Chinese New Year Celebration
This year, we celebrated our Chinese New Year with the elderlies over at Thong Teck Home. Our activities include Bingo game with the elderly folks, making of hampers, Chinese knots and CNY cards for them and many more!
Here are some of the highlights taken during the celebration.
Interact Club hosted a bingo game with the elderlies at Thong Teck Home in 4 languages. Both the elderlies and our interactors had lots of fun. It was definitely a heartwarming and memorable virtual ViA experience!
The class activities included the making of the hamper, tying of chinese knots as well as folding origami tigers from red packets! All these items that were made, along with food items such as biscuits, were all wrapped up with the collective effort of each class.
Writing of Chinese Calligraphy Couplets, 变脸 or face-changing performance and not forgetting our very own lion dance.
Our Principal, Ms Chew, along with a group of teachers loaded the beautifully wrapped hampers into their cars and delivered them to Thong Teck Home. The hampers were received by Mr Rashid in representation of Thong Teck Home.
The 52nd World School Children's Art Exhibition
We would like to congratulate Alexis Leow En Xuan (1E1) on obtaining Bronze in the 52nd World School Children's Art Exhibition. We are pleased to feature her art piece titled " A Singapore Wonderland " and her write-up.
"The Merlion, all types of contemporary architecture, a giant lotus-shaped Art Science Museum, and many other icons of Singapore… If the painting could talk, we would hear it say, “This is my country, Singapore. I live in a place with many attractions, so welcome to my country!”
