Direct School Admission

The Direct School Admission (DSA) Exercise allows schools to offer places to suitable students with outstanding talent areas before the release of their PSLE exam results. TKGS invites Primary 6 students who have the ability and potential to meet our listed criteria below to apply.

Parents and students are encouraged to choose schools wisely based on the student’s aptitudes and strengths, bearing in mind the schools’ academic and non-academic requirements, and the programmes available to develop the area of talent.

Criteria

Applicants should fulfil criteria in 2 areas: Academic performance and talent in special areas.

1.   Academic Performance

Students who have achieved an overall score of 70% or more for the Primary 5 Year-End Examination (2018) and Primary 6 Mid-Year Examination (2019).

Criteria

Performing Arts

Choir

·   Students will be assessed on:

-   A song of the student’s choice

-   Their musicality and vocal technique


·   Students should preferably have relevant experience such as:

-   Being an active Choir member in Primary School or having prior experience in choral/solo singing, OR

-   Having attained a Grade 3 in Theory and Practical# on any Western instrument or Voice

String

Ensemble

·   Students will be assessed on:

-   A piece of the student’s choice (ensemble parts are allowed)

-   Their musicality and instrumental technique (including scales)

-   Their aural ability (rhythm and pitch)

 

·   Students should preferably have relevant experience such as:

-   Being an active member of the String Ensemble in Primary School, OR

-   Having at least a year’s experience playing in an orchestra/ensemble, OR

-   Having attained a Grade 4 in Practical# in Violin/ Viola/ Cello/ Double Bass, OR

-   Having attained a Grade 5 in Theory and Practical# on any other Western instrument or Voice

Symphonic

Band

·   Students will be assessed on:

-   A piece of the student’s choice (ensemble parts are allowed)

-   Their musicality and instrumental technique (including scales)

-   Their aural ability (rhythm and pitch)

·   Students should preferably have relevant experience such as:

-   Being an active member of the Band in Primary School, OR

-   Having attained at least a Grade 3 in Practical# in any of the Band instruments, OR

-   Having attained at least a Grade 5 Theory and Practical# on any other Western instrument or Voice

Drama

·   Students will be assessed on vocal and physical expressions through:

-   Delivery of a short prepared speech given beforehand

-   A drama improvisation task provided

·   Students should preferably have relevant experience such as:

-   Being an active member of the Drama Club in Primary School, OR

-   Having been involved in a school/national/international drama/musical production, OR

-   Having participated in school/national oratorical/story telling competitions

Dance

·   Students will be assessed on:

-   A pre-prepared dance solo (part from dance ensemble piece is allowed)

-   Technical tasks (balance, strength, coordination and sense of rhythm)

·   Students should preferably have relevant experience such as:

-   Being an active member of a Dance Club in Primary School, OR

-   Having attained attained Grade 5 (with Merit) from RAD, ISTD or CSTD in classical Ballet, OR

-   Having performed well in a reputed dance competition (local / overseas)

Sports

For all Sports CCAs

·   Students should preferably have relevant experience such as:

-   Having represented Primary School in the National School Games (Zonal or National) Inter-Primary School Championship, OR   

-   Having represented National Sports Association or Club in local or overseas competition, OR

-   Having represented Singapore Primary Schools Sports Council in local or overseas competition (Attach copy of the certificate if any), OR

-   Being currently enrolled in MOE’s Junior Sports Academy (JSA) Programme and had completed a sport module similar to the relevant Sports CCA of choice 

Additionally for:

Badminton, Basketball, Netball, Floorball, Softball, Tennis

·   Students will be assessed on:

-   Physical fitness

-   Sport-specific skills

-   In-game decision-making skills

 

Additionally for:

Tenpin Bowling

·   Students will be assessed on:

-   Physical game

Additionally for:

Sailing

·   Students will be assessed through:

-   An interview

 

·   Student should preferably have the following achievement:

-   Be ranked top 100 in the Optimist Gold Fleet in Singapore Sailing Federation’s rank list

Clubs & Societies

Literary and Debating     Society

·   Students will be assessed on their clarity of speech and thinking through:

-   Short prepared speech of own choice

-   Unseen discursive task involving persuasive speech

·   Students should preferably have relevant experience such as having performed well at:

-    National or other oratorical/ public-speaking/ storytelling/ debating competitions in English (e.g. Wits & Words organized by MOE)

Music

Music Elective Program

·   Students will be assessed on:

-   Performance of 2 contrasting prepared pieces on instrument of choice

-   Aural and sight-reading tasks

-   Listening test which requires score-reading skills

-   Short written theory test

 

·   Students should preferably have relevant experience such as:

-   Having attained at least Grade 5 in Theory# and Grade 6 in Practical# on any Western instrument or Voice

-   Having participated actively in a school-based or external musical group

#Note: Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) / Guildhall School of Music and Drama (GSMD) / London College of Music (LCM) / Trinity College London (TCL) / equivalent 

On top of the assessment criteria listed above, students may be asked for interviews as well. Please be informed that parents are not allowed to attend the trials and interviews.
