The Direct School Admission (DSA) Exercise allows schools to offer places to suitable students with outstanding talent areas before the release of their PSLE exam results. TKGS invites Primary 6 students who have the ability and potential to meet our listed criteria below to apply.


Criteria

Applicants should fulfil criteria in 2 areas:
1.   Academic Performance
Students who have achieved an overall score of 70% or more for the Primary 5 Year-End Examination (2020) and Primary 6 Mid-Year Examination (2021) result.


2.   Talent in Special Areas

Area

CCA

Criteria

Performing
Arts

Choir

Students should preferably have relevant experience such as:
  • Being an active Choir member in Primary School or having prior experience in choral/solo singing

Shortlisted students will be assessed on:
  • A song of the student’s choice
  • Intonation, musicality and vocal technique
  • Sight-singing

String
Ensemble

Students should preferably have relevant experience such as:
  • Being an active member of the String Ensemble in Primary School, 
OR
  • Having at least a year’s experience playing in an orchestra/ensemble

Shortlisted students will be assessed on:
  • One solo piece of the student’s choice (not more than 5 min)
  • Two scales (according to their current level of proficiency)
  • Sight-reading 

Symphonic
Band

Students should preferably have relevant experience such as:
  • Being an active member of the Band or any music CCA in Primary School, and / or
  • Any other musical experiences outside school

Shortlisted students will be assessed on:
  • Two contrasting pieces of the student’s choice (ensemble parts are allowed)
  • Instrumental technique (including scales – Concert Bb, Eb, F major)
  • Musicality & expression
  • Sight-reading (rhythm and pitch)
  • Aural ability (play back a short musical passage on their instrument after listening)

Dance

Students should preferably have relevant experience such as:
  • Being an active member of a Dance Club in primary school, or
  • Having performed well in a reputed dance competition (local / overseas)
 
Shortlisted students will be assessed on:
  • A pre-prepared dance solo (part from dance ensemble piece is allowed)
  • Technical tasks (balance, strength, and sense of rhythm)

Sports

For all Sports CCAs (Badminton, Basketball, Bowling, Floorball, Netball, Sailing, Softball & Tennis)

Students should preferably have relevant experience such as:
  • Having represented Primary School in the National School Games (Zonal or National) Inter-Primary School Championship, OR   
  • Having represented National Sports Association or Club in local or overseas competition, OR
  • Having represented Singapore Primary Schools Sports Council in local or overseas competition (Attach copy of the certificate if any), OR
  • Being currently enrolled in MOE’s Junior Sports Academy (JSA) Programme and has completed a sport module similar to the relevant Sports CCA of choice
 
 Shortlisted students will be assessed on:
  • Sport-specific skills

Music

Music Elective Program

Students should preferably have relevant experience such as:
  • Being actively involved in a school-based or external musical group
 
Students will be assessed on:
  • Performance of 2 contrasting prepared pieces on instrument of choice
  • Aural and sight-reading tasks
  • Listening & Theory written test which may require simple
score-reading skills

For all Talent Areas

Apart from the Auditions/ Trials via video conferencing modes, students will also undergo an interview. 

* Please note that meeting all the criteria does not guarantee the student will be shortlisted/ given an offer.

Application for DSA-Sec can be submitted through the online DSA-Sec Portal. The application is free-of-charge and will be open from 5 May 2021, 11am to 1 June 2021, 3pm. For more details, please refer to MOE website – www.moe.gov.sg/dsa-sec.

Parents and students are encouraged to choose schools wisely based on the student’s aptitudes and strengths, bearing in mind the schools’ academic and non-academic requirements, and the programmes available to develop the area of talent.

Students who are successfully admitted to the school via DSA are expected to honour their commitment to the school, and participate in the activities related to the talent they are selected for from year 1-4.
